Danny Briere has been playing in nhl for what, 3 seasons now? Hes AMAZING already!

Man certainly has his off days, but when he's on fire heres on fire. Fastest Skater in the NHL and 5 goals in one game.

obv he's on the list, he's has the most career points out of everyone currently in the NHL, also my fav player

- the only defenseman to win the scoring title... twice - the all-time leader in plus minus - NHL single season record for plus/minus: 124 (he had 139 points that year... that means the opposing team only scored 15 goals all season when he was on the ice... that's the most incredible stat in NHL history! ) - most times winning an award consecutively: 8 (Norris) - only defenseman to record 100 assists in a season - won an award Gretzky didn't win: the Calder Trophy - the best skater in NHL history - the most important reason that he is the best hockey player of all time... he did all of this on one leg... in only 9 seasons in the NHL. He is a great person, great mentor, and the greatest hockey player of all time. I'm glad he is Canadian. Thank you Robert Gordon Orr. "Number 4, Bobby Orr... he shoots, he scores! " :-)

The best European captain that the NHL has seen in decades. As well one of the best scorers for his older age. Lock for the Hall if Ottawa wins a cup which they will.

He's one of the best in the NHL but is compared to Wayne Gretzky , I don't think so!

Mario would be and should be the best nhl player ever because he went through a lot to just get there. he fought cancer he missed like half a season about 7 times, and his 2.5 points per game would give him an average of about 205 points each season. Mario is all around the best player. He could easly top the 2,500 point mark. Lets go mario the magnificent!!!!!

Agreed. "Athlete" of the century. I'll second that and toss in the name Dave Winfield as a close second. Don't laugh or immediately think I'm nuts...look it up and you'll see the resemblances I'm referring to. Dave just "chose" not to try to do all he was capable of and focused on baseball, which was arguably the weakest of his talents but the highest paying opportunity at the time. Tough choice given he was drafted into the NBA, NFL, MLB, the insanley popular at the time but now defunct ABA (the American Basketball Association), and also now defunct WHA (World Hockey Association), a narrow loser in terms of existence to the NHL (mostly poor marketing in a not so popular sport outside of the northern states for a black guy). Upon his graduation and shortly after the preeminent outfielder PITCHED the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a national collegiate world series championship and of course was named the MVP of the series as said pitcher he chose MLB. By the way, he was also the first athlete that was offered the opportunity to make the jump straight from high school to the NBA (ala Kobe, Lebron etc etc 30 years later). Much like our man Jim Thorpe (which although it seems I'm really pushing Winfield here as a god of sport) I still find as the athlete of the century, Winfield was drafted in more than one of these sports and offered large sums of money wihtout ever having played a down, play, or game at the collegiate level. And of course, he was the first man to go straight to the bigs, bypassing a single farm team game when he did finally choose baseball and the Padre's chose him. I'll stop here, but I could go on....check the guy out on google or wikapedia and then even ATTEMPT to put anyone in the same category as Jim Thorpe, him, or Jim Brown as a distant third when it comes to the uttely ridiculous but ultimately necessary conversations about who is the greatest athlete ever. Or take the easy way out and pick Secretariat and you'll get no arguments from the other horses :)

He is a superstar in the NHL and San Jose.

OMG this guy has won 5 scoring titles and he sure can rack up points better than any of the current nhl player or any last year or the year before.(other than Crosby!)

Possibly the greatest sports captain in history - and certainly one of the greatest NHL players ever.

The most consistant goalie,, i believe in the NHL. If it wasnt for him, and maybe Chris, the sabres would be horrible.

if he hadnt of had cancer which caused him to miss so many games, the majority of the NHL's scoring records would be held by 66 not 99

you have got to be kidding, he is second in points in NHL history, played the second most games ever, third in assists, he has to be in the top 3

He has to be the BEST goalie ever in the history of the NHL...

The only defenseman to ever lead the NHL in scoring, he was perhaps the best team sport athlete ever.

The "Great One" changed the face of hockey as he brings a new era of speed, skill, and scoring touch into the game. Entered the NHL erasing almost all scoring records he quickly built the Oilers Dynasty with amazing haste. Along with his hockey sensation Gretzky is recognized for his charity work and a strong connection with the game of Hockey.
