I cried. The ending speech and the soundtrack didn't help

105Boys Don't Cry
This movie was absolutely incredible it should be in the top ten. It's brilliant ability to realistically portray hate crimes, love, rape, And lgbt rights is incredible powerful. Not to mention its a true story. And Hilary swanks performance was incredible

107Children of Heaven

People if you haven't watched this movie, I suggest you give it a try.. A very touching movie.

108The Omega Man

109The Phantom of the Opera

The first time I watched it and Christine kissed the Phantom I completedly cried my eyes out. Although I totally agree when the Phantom says "Christine, I love you. " I was just soaked in my tears and I had dreams about it so saddening me for the next three weeks.

So sad...
Especially the Phantom's "Christine, I love you. "
Makes me cry :(

The great story about the man who really existed. I'm crying every time I watch it!

Very sad what is going on in Juarez. Please watch this movie.

112Pan's Labyrinth

113One True Thing

My older sister had just gone though breast cancer, wow great movie

Meryl Streep gives one of her best performances as a mother stricken with cancer and her dealing with her family in her final days. This is based on a true story. Just heartbreaking.

114The Wings of the Dove

115Romeo & Juliet

to star crosslovers, the end rips you heartout

116Mask

117The Fountain

I am a alpha male... with a spirtual side

cried like a baby when clint mansell began playing the last man.

couldnt take it, I love life, what an amazing ting

This movie is like concentrated sadness of 90 minutes and it shows perfectly someones emotions when you're about to lose someone that you love and the absolute sadness when you're actually losing him/her. It shows how a man does everything possible to reunite with his loved one even giving his life, because "death is the road to awe".

Sums up the feeling of losing someone so perfectly. Accompanied with an incredible soundtrack that captures every mood perfectly, this film is truly art as opposed to entertainment. An emotionally fulfilling experience.

118In Her Shoes

119Slumdog Millionaire

120Rosewood

I had shut this movie out of my mind. It was too... too much to take

1218 Seconds

122Steel Magnolias
If I ever need a good cry, I watch this movie. The end of the movie when the mother is screaming and crying really gets me every time. It's just so terrible knowing she has to deal with her daughter passing away. I would have handled it the same way she did.
I cried like a baby!
Amazing film, perfect family film, It's heartbreaking but at the same time it can be funny in parts! - I don't think I know anybody who didn't cry at this movie! - I recommend it.
So right--makes me cry every time, along with terms of endearment as well

123John Q

What makes it so sad, is that some people might have to do something like this to get help for thier kids.

RdrTech

How is john q this high seriously. This is sad movie about parent that is going to lose the most important thing, and would do anything to save them. Any real parent would understand the pure emotions behind this

I'm not gonna burry my son. My son is gonna burry me! - best part of the whole movie

124Vanilla Sky

This movie grew sadder and sadder until the ending where it was so unbearably sad it almost hurt.

I absolutely love this film. It makes me want to make movies like this. If you haven't. Seen it you should.

Only true romantics, the one's who've really lived it, will understand the reasons this movie is the saddest movie of all time.

More comments about Vanilla Sky

125Reign Over Me
One of the saddest movies ever! If you have a family this movie will really hit you where it hurts. I would never want to experience the things that have happened to Adam Sandler's character.
This should be higher than 51.
Adam Sandler's performance surprised me and Don Cheadle is solid as always.
Very upsetting film though.
This is the only movie that has ever made me cry. I have only watched it twice and I cried both times. It deserves to be much higher then it is.

126Simon Birch
What a tear jerker, I was glad there was nobody else around when I watched this I wasn't just tearful I was sobbing; truly a moving movie, that's helps people to understand that despite how you can be received from others for not being what one would class as normal is truly beautiful! Thanks for introducing me to this movie
this movie should be much higher on the list. I usually don't cry during movies that aren't true but this is an exception.
Such an amazing movie, if only more people knew about it, it would be on so many people's favorite movies list. One of my favorites ever, I'm pretty sure I cry every time I watch it.

127Atonement

Beautiful, sensual and desperately melancholic. It is incredibly rare to find a film like Atonement made by people who, at the exact same moment in time, are at the height of their power and crafts. A sheer pleasure to watch and a masterpiece of storytelling.

128Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Jim Carey's performance in this was amazing. Completely different to his usual cheerful character. One word: Amazing :)
This film made me cry more than green mile, titanic and a barrel full of chopped onions put together. Not enogh people have seen this film! Masterpiece
Kind of confused as to how this is not already on the list.
The sheer helplessness you can feel if you imagine having all your memories erased of one particular person is simply astounding. Watch. This. Movie. It's amazing.

129The Perfect Storm

Oh yeah, I cried on this one. My mom had just died in 2002, and I took a line from near the end of the movie to be read at her funeral. I couldn't do it myself, I had lost my voice.

130Brokeback Mountain
Sorry, but WHY THE HELL SHREK IS CONSIDERED SADDER THAN BROKEBACK? People, come on. You cannot not cry watching this. Shame on you, this should be in top 20 at last :c
My favorite movie ever and so sad, I feel for all 4 main characters. I just recently watched it for the second time and couldn't concentrate on work the next day. Now, a week later I have watched all other Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal movies, amazing actors. And Ledgers death makes watching the movie even sadder for me.
I cried like a baby at this film, subject to ignorance about it being 'gay cowboy' people need to watch this movie because its not just sentimental sadness but it leaves you hollow for days afterward but is so worth the watch, great story about life to me.
More comments about Brokeback Mountain

131The Bridges of Madison County
This film is so sad, I want to watch just one time and she will get out of the car! Anyone who has seen this film will know exactly what I mean!
Totally beautiful, incredibly sad!
Should be number one makes m every every time I watch it well acted too

132Rocky

133The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

134The Plague Dogs
How is The Plague Dogs 28th? It's one of the saddest movies I think I've ever watched and it should be even higher considering that it's an animated film too! I don't cry at movie's and neither does my friend and we were both bawling by the end. If you're a strong animal lover and you don't want to cry randomly for the next whole week the I suggest that you don't watch this.
Easily the second saddest movie I've ever seen. Animal lover's should bring a tissue box.
I've got to go hug my dog now...

153A Bronx Tale

Probably not the saddest but just imagine losing 5 of your best friends, all in one night

Dania0671

154King Kong (2005)

oh absolutely, me too. I'm seriously troubled by stories of simian exploitation, so yes this one is very sad, you see my grandma used to work at a monkey sanctuary when I was a kid so I know about these things. Very sad- watch if you want to drown in monkey-sadness tears.

The big monkey always sets me off. Boohoo.

155A Little Princess

I cried so much. a little girl with so much love and generousity left alone in the world, in a world she was so giving in only showed her cruelity, suffering and heartlessness back. all because they were jealous she was the richest beforehand. ALL GIRLS ARE PRINCESSES. fullstop. beautiful movie.

"I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren't pretty, or smart, or young. They're still princesses. All of us. Didn't your father ever tell you that? Didn't he? "

156Donnie Darko

Donnie Dying Mad World - Gary Jules = Sadness :'(

nacholibre4497

I've never cried at a movie but here I came closer than when I saw Titanic (which I think is slightly overrated)

Not only the saddest but it is the best movie of all time. There is one movie that might compare in sadness and that is the pianist but I don't see it on this list.

More comments about Donnie Darko

157The Patriot
So many death scenes... They're so emotional, like when the guy who plays Mel's son died, I had lost it.
When his son dies... so sad.

ChelseaSmile

158Terminator 2: Judgment Day

" I know now why you cry" When T2 selflessly ^^ stoically lowered himself into the molten steel...

I know I cried when I saw that the first time too. I was about 9

Razor79

The ending scene when arnie puts his thumb up to john connor as he is melting in lava is a tear jerker

159Untamed Heart

160My Life
Not only does it make you cry like a baby, my life teaches you about how important every second of your life is. But the family relationships when you know someone is dying is a killer. I wish they put this movie on T.V. or even cable soon.
The fact that I see top ten list of saddest movies ever that do no include this movie says a lot about top ten list. Michael Keaton is fantastic in this from start to finish. I have never shed more tears in two hours at any point in My Life.
So sad. The only reason it's not rated higher is that not enough people have seen it. The death scene is done beautifully.

161Wait 'Til You're Older

162Moon Child

The saddest movie ever..
It's about five friends. One of them is a vampire. In the end all of them are gonna die.
Main Cast:
Gackt as Sho
HYDE as Kei

Ga-Gackt

163The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Oh my god, I cry at every Wes Anderson film. They should all be on here, seriously. Especially The Royal Tenenbaums.

164The Mission

165Third on a Match

166Anne of Green Gables

167Rent

Tell me I'm not the only one who blubbers my heart out every time I watch this? I've killed so many trees in tissues because of this movie haha

I cried during the funeral scene, and the scene where Mimi almost dies.

168Moulin Rouge!
This film killed me, always brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat.
One of the best films I've ever scene!
THE GREATEST THING ABOVE ALL IS TO LOVE AND BE LOVED IN RETURN

169Brother Bear 2

170Armageddon
Such a sad film. I have seen this over a million times and I still end up with tears falling down my face. Not only is it sad but the whole story line is amazing. One of the best films I've seen and will never get to old.
People go in to space and some die I cry every time
The ending made me cry every time...

171La Bamba

172The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep

173The Other Side of the Mountain

174Glory

This is the only movie to make me cry (possibly its because its one of the only good things my home states done in a long time)
P.S.A.I. was one of the most stupid movies I have ever seen.

fireinside96

175E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial

176Brother Bear

177Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father

I challenge anyone to watch this movie. If you combine all the movies on this list it will still fall short of the sadness caused by Dear Zachary. It is life alteringly depressing. View at your own risk

zacenroe86

Titanic... Really. Although this is a documentary, Dear Zachary is the saddest movie I have ever seen. The depth of despair you will experience is something that no other movie has been able to do for me. Requiem for a Dream is another one that grips you tight and wont let go but it has nothing on Dear Zachary. Watch at your own risk

I have never seen such a movie with so much suffering in it, a must see for anyone that has a heart. I do agree that you should be warned going in to this, that this movie is without a doubt the saddest movie I have ever seen.

178The Cure

Finally I found it! Can;t believe it's number 213. I think it's definitely one of the top 10 saddest, certainly higher than 213! A dying kid?!?! The part with he shoe? Come on!

davidthenurse

I don't cry in movies and I was still crying 1 hour after it was done the ultimate friendship movie

179Milk

180World Trade Center

I cried from the moment the two towers went down to the end of the credits. it was so sad. until I watched the movie I din't really get how bad 9/11 was but this movie not only changed my thoughts about 9/11 it changed me forever. the saddest movie I ever saw. a close second would be forrest gump or toy story 3. but this one made me cry 10 times more then them

Just a reminder how bad that day was on September 11 2001. One of the saddest scenes was watching the guy falling from one of the towers.

181Bolt

really sad. I love the song at the end with the photo! one of those endings where you just have to know what happens to them after the end.

182On the Beach

I been trying to look at the title of the movie.. This is a very good sad movie it made me cry so much

Gregory Peck, Ava GARDNER - A nuclear war has happened - an American submarine comes into Australia - gradually the fallout winds drift to southern hemisphere and people get sick & die - then people see the end and start to plan their own deaths - no one survives - gregory peck & sub returns to us to die at home. Damn this movie rips your heart out. It is so sad!

183The Christmas Shoes

We watched this as a family... All of us were convulsing with sadness. This movie is horrifically sad. I can't even listen to the song anymore... Not joking. Sad Sad Super sad. I hate it.

184Stand By Me
"I'll see you". "Not if I see you first. "
I cry every time and maybe it's because River Phoenix just kind of vanishes and I connect that to his death. But also the loss innocence in all of the boys. It's a really emotional movie and River Phoenix delivers an amazing performance.

185Revolutionary Road

WHY IS THIS DOWN AT 147?! Hate it when Frank cries D':

186The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

187The Diary of Anne Frank

188The Pianist
Saddest movie I've ever seen. Watching Wladyslaw struggle to stay alive when all his family has been slautered along with the rest of the jews. Always gets me in a sad mood.

189Hotel Rwanda

190Blue Valentine

191The Impossible
This is an amazingly emotional movie. And its real life, which makes it so much more dramatic. You feel as if you are there in the tsunami with them... It is so sad and terrifying, yet so beautiful and touching. How is this not #1...
Heart-wrenching movie based on a true story of a family in the 2004 tsunami in Thailand. One of those films that makes you cry from the start to the very end, and after it's finished. Left me sobbing in the cinema
The saddest movie I have eve watched, I am not a cryer at the movies, but I literally cried from 15 minutes in to the end!
More comments about The Impossible

192The English Patient
The scene where he is forced to leave his wife in a cave to go get help is gut-wrenching.

193A Place for Annie

194Cinderella Man

195The Joy Luck Club

There wasn't a dry eye in the theater!

196The Red Violin

While more on the contemporary side (the 1970's made the best of the saddest), I was thoroughly pulled into this movie. Very emotional!

197An Angel For May

198Cyborg She (2008)

As much as it is a Japanese comedy and all, a lot of my male friends cried out loud while watching this movie. The way a mere nerd can fall in love with a female cyborg was so beautiful. And it was heart breaking when she sacrificed herself for him because she is starting to know what love is.
