Head and shoulders above everything else! For most episodes each character had their own funny story line. The characters were so good that the actors have had problems getting subsequent work because they are so closely associated with those characters.

Its the awesomest of all the shows. Its the legend-daddy show of the world. Each and every character in the show are performing to their fullest and its this thing that makes it, "The Best of The Best".

HIMYM is nothing less than a wonderful magical experience. The character quality is nothing short than multi-dimensional and the story is so well-planned that one starts an episode baffled and finishes it laughing. Kudos to the makers and actors.

How I met your mother is the best sitcom one can ever come across. Especially with Barney Stinson you have got to agree that it AWESOME! So "THUMBS UP! "

Intelligent and unique alternative for nowadays stupid sitcoms. That sitcom can be watched all around and still is funny, while others have those types of jokes, which can be funny only once. Frasier may not be at first place, as it's sense of humor is not available for everyone. Today people prefer shallow jokes or watching somebody falling from stars, rather than sophisticated points.

Frasier is the best thing to have hit television.. and it still is, it's a show that never fails, it can make me laught at the worst of days, and it never gets old..

Great show. Frank is the best, Robert is right behind him. the mother gets annoying and Raymond, well he's just a whining wuss. But, none the less, I still love this show, its very funny. My favorite show for this catagory would be "That 70s show". I'm not a huge Simpsons fan but as many years they been around and still running, you gotta give that show a huge round of applause.

By far the best sitcom ever to grace television, even one of the best shows period. Extremely smart and very fast paced comedy, there's no "setup setup setup punchline" nonsense, it's just a constant barrage of well written, well acted humor... and it only gets better the second time you watch.

South Park Is an epic creation. I have watched their series from beginning to end many times. The creators Trey Parker & Matt Stone never hold back on the social situation of the day. Know one is safe from their mischief and direct approach to comedy.

There are at least 20 shows on this list I'd consider for number 1. Its testament to all of them how hard it is to pick. Ultimately I vote M*A*S*H. Alan Alda. Witty. Awesomely droll. Addictive.

Having Cheers #22 on this list is a travesty. It looks like whomever made this list has only watched the 90's sitcoms, as many of the top ones are more recent. Cheers is, hands down, the greatest sitcom ever.

The fact is this is the most brilliant sitcom of all time. I'm a little narrow minded when it comes to sitcoms, though. If it doesn't have a laugh track, than it's no sitcom. All of the episodes of Fawlty Towers are tight and hilarious. It shows off John Cleese's comedic ability better than anything you'll ever see him in. The only shortcoming is that Cleese and Booth only made twelve episodes. I wish they had had the balls to make more.

Brithish humor beats american humor 10 out of 10. FT beats them all. Go Cleese!

The Nanny has always been in my Top 5 along with Friends. There's just something about Fran Drescher and the rest of the cast that is captivating and every episode just cracks me up whenever I watch the re-runs.

#33? Really? This was such a great comedy, with such a dynamic cast contrast. It also had one of the best love-hate-hate-love relations between Niles and CC EVER. Putting this show all the way down at 33 is not really fair compared with South Park and Family Guy, considering those are more 'modern' animated shows. Someone needs to retake this whole thing and recycle or people need to remember life before T.V. went down the drain.

Phil Dunphy, the best character I have seen on TV in many years. Sofia Vergara is hilarious too.

This sitcom had everything. Great actors, great scripts, memorable lines, and discussed the most serious and relevant issues other sitcoms would not even dare touch - and everything still ended up a blast. This show is endearing, to say the least. Any list of the greatest sitcoms without the Golden Girls in its Top Five is a sham. And anybody who makes such a list has obviously not seen an episode or two of The Golden Girls. End of story.

Not only is this sitcom funny, but unlike all other sitcoms, it also reflects true life situations that can be quite emotional and heartbreaking from time to time. This sitcom kept me going through some of the most difficult times of my life. I want to thank the girls for this, and wish them all the best.

I reckon Adder and Fawlty are about even as the 'best' with Seinfeld just behind. To me Fawlty is the quintessential sitcom and it's all great, but I love every single episode of Adder and there are more of them. Very fave Fawlty epidodes are "Waldorf Salad" and a "Touch of Class" ("A gin and orange, a lemon squash, and a scotch and water PLEASE! ") So far as Adder goes I think they're all very good, though series II and IV are the best- my fave episodes are from those series', II in particular, "Potato" ("blubbed on the way to the blocks") and "Beer" ("that song about the goblin") and of course "General Hospital" (You mean your father's German, you're half German and you married a German").
As for Seinfeld, George and Kramer are great. My fave all-time episode of Seinfeld is "The Seven". I love it when George suggests 'Soda' for a girl's name, as the couple are looking confused, he says: "I solve problems, that's what I do". "The Marine Biologist" is great too; "The Jimmy", "The Junior Mint", "The Helllllllo", "The Big Salad" are other very notable episodes. My favourite seasons are 5, 8 and 9, though they're all very good. I also like the "Andrea Doria" where George is talking to the old man about the ship that went down and he can't believe so few people died on it when he thought it would be thousands. "It took 10 hours to sink after it hit the iceberg, it was like an old man getting into a hot bath". All of it's great and George has (nearly) all the best lines

It seems like the voters have almost entirely neglected to mention British sitcoms. This an amazing show, not to mention laugh out loud funny, as well as a fantastic conclusion. The only qualm I have regarding this show is that the first season was a disappointment, but the rest of the four are legendary.

I agree Rowan is brilliant but lets not forget Tony Robinsons "BAldrick" whose understated manner made the perfect foil.

The IT Crowd is so funny. I love every episode. I wish more sitcoms could be as original as this. Coming from the same team as Father Ted, it still equals it and is brilliant in its own right.

What Kevin goes through in the show is stuff, a lot of us went through as well as children : crushes, silliness, good and bad teachers and what not.

This must be among the top 10. There were scenes that made me cry and there were some that made me so full of boiling emotions. The way kevin climbed up cooper's house to say "I love you" and the expressions she had when she said it too was once in a life time feeling. I adore this show and its got be among the top 10.

Becker is the best comedy.....Serious comedy...Love it

when becker first came on, I couldn't get rid of the concept of sam malone being a doctor...after becker went off the air (first run), I suddenly realized how great a show it was. I know it might seem odd, but when I think of Ted Danson, I think of ''Becker'' and not ''Cheers''

I especially loved the last episode, Ted Dansons's real live wife has a cameo...Becker reads a chart of a Mr. Nielson and says..."his numbers aren't that bad". BRAVO.

Unique and dazzlingly surprising every time. You don't need high quality sets or special effects to get something so original and fresh. The script is always sharp and you can tell they really care about their characters

First 3 series are just unbeatable. Then it goes down, but the beginning is just really the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. Give it a try and have a spare nappies at hand.

I really think 'Allo 'Allo would hold a much higher position in this ranking if more people had seen it. Most people don't even know about this show, but the first two seasons are absolutely brilliant! Renè's character is one of the best ever.

Honeymooners and Seinfeld are the best ever sitcoms. Many younger folks have never even heard of this show.

This show is just awesome. Every character is funny in his/her own way, and it has many great and unique episodes. Take "Dabed's uncontrollable Christmas", which takes the animation style from stop-motion films. Most secondary characters are very enjoyable as well.

Start from Season One on Netflix or a DVD, get to know the characters and before you know it, you will be watching the greatest show you have ever seen.

God I have so many sitcoms that I want up there besides "Friends" or "Seinfeld", not saying they're not good, but I prefer the humour of Frasier, Just Shoot Me, Will and Grace, and since Spin City is one of my favorites and is far from the top ten, I'm gonna choose it instead, but not without mentioning that even though I love TBBT, Two and a Half Men, 30 rock, and other actual sitcoms, these will never compare with the ones I mentioned in this comment, it's not being old-fashioned, it's giving credit to the real deal, pioneers of modern sitcoms. I really miss when sitcoms were brilliant.

Loved the show, because of its superb cast. I don't know what's it doing here on rank 75. I think it deserves much better than that. Or I guess I'm just old-fashioned. Loved the Michael J. Fox seasons though the Charlie Sheen seasons weren't bad either. I just hated to see the characters of Nikki, James, Stacey and Janelle disappear from the show. To me they were like 'part of the family'.

This show had it all...definitely is in my top 5 (the Michael J. Fox years).

I watched one episode and was hooked, and everyone I showed it two was sucked in after watching the first two. Bob is amazing! As is Jodi, Jessica Tate, the Major, Burt... everyone! Just the relationship between Tim Daly and Steven Weber as the Hacket brothers was enough to put this show in the top ten. With the rest of the amazing supporting cast by far one of the finest sit com's of all time.

I believe the old shows (Dick Van Dyke and I Love Lucy) are being shorted on this list since they are from so long ago. Both easily belong in the top 10 list - the writing was superb for both series.

Amazing this wasn't on the list. Best ensemble cast of all time (DVD, MTM, Maury Amsterdam, Carl Reiner, Rose Marie, Richard Deacon)

#68? This show is a sitcom for intelligent adults who like great writing - there is some real crap here - Friends number 1? Yeah I guess if you're in high school or have an IQ of less than 70 it would be great. Shows like Frasier, Black Books, Blackadder, Curb and of course the seminal Seinfeld really should have top billing here

Why this isn't in the Top 10 is beyond me. It had the most watched episode in television show history. Seinfeld can't compare to The Beverly Hillbillies.

This is just an absolute classic. I can't imagine why its this far down on the chart. This was made in the golden age of sitcoms

Still stands up after all these years. I'd rather watch the Hillbillies than any garbage on the tube now.

I have never laughed so hard and so often as I did when watching Are You Being Served. Totally a classic show. The characters just work so well together!

Brilliant writing that has aged very well along with perhaps the greatest use of double entendres of any sitcom of the past 50 years. What puts the show over the top is the acting and line delivery which is superb.

It only aired one season and its better than all these crappy fake shows nowadays. People might think I'm an idiot for liking a show called freaks and geeks, but "FRIENDS' is for losers who have no friends, well except for Pheobe and David Schwimmer.

Such a good show. Just wasn't the right time. If this show was re-released it would be number one in two weeks!

Much more complicated than it appeared... The characters interlocked and played off each other... The Professor was the only super smart guy that was kind of cool and was very important to the castaways survival. It takes a genius to write something that is so seemingly simple, yet works and stays funny time after time.

I'd have this in my top 5 easily. Only Seinfeld readily comes to mind as a show that has given me more consistent laughs.

Characters were incredible, and how can you forget about district attorney Dan Fielding and opposing character, Judge Harry T. Stone.

I'm female and loved it too :) It had romance, relationships, and sports! Something for everyone! Jerry Van Dyke was classic on this and the challenges of the male/female dynamic was something almost everyone could relate too! An innocuous, goofy and feel-good show. I miss these!
