Most Overused Advertising Cliches

Experts say that the average person is exposed to about 3,000 advertisements every day. With that many advertisements out there, it is no surprise that advertisers have a hard time coming up with something new. It seems that many advertisers out there have completely given up on being original and are simply recycling the same old ads. This list is a collection of the cliches that advertisers keep on throwing in their ads. Don't agree with the list? Place your vote or if you are a logged in, add a new item for others to vote on.

Vote for But wait! Order now and you also get 1) But wait! Order now and you also get

yes, I hear that on every commercial

Razor79

so overused you almost know there going to say it

kumo9

aaah...the old classic.

Vote for Cool looking ads that have nothing to do with the product 2) Cool looking ads that have nothing to do with the product

These ones are great. You watch a 60 second commercial and when it is over, you have no idea what it is that you are supposed to buy.

Vote for Any price ending with 95 or 99 cents 3) Any price ending with 95 or 99 cents

GRRRRRR!

Vote for Fake Doctors 4) Fake Doctors

How about fake claims made by sellers of "natural" vitamins, etc.?

Vote for 25 percent more effective! 5) 25 percent more effective!

c’mon, how can you measure that kind of stuff? Besides, why would you advertise that the previous product was 25 percent "worse" before they fixed it?

heather

I especially enjoy the ads where something totally immeasurable is now improved by some percentage. What exactly does it mean when a body spray makes you feel 30% fresher?

Vote for Children advising parents on finances, real estate, insurance etc. 6) Children advising parents on finances, real estate, insurance etc.

Thank you! Those commercials are not cute at all! They’re annoying, especially the smart-daughter-dumb-daddy ads!!

Vote for "As seen on TV!" 7) "As seen on TV!"

as if that means it is a better product???

Vote for But wait! There’s more! 8) But wait! There’s more!

This is so god damn annoying I didn’t want to see it in the first place why’d you think I wanna see more?

Vote for Prices too low to advertise! 9) Prices too low to advertise!

You’d think they didn’t want people pounding on their doors in a frenzy to get their product. Maybe it’s a safety issue - "we don’t want our employees trampled to death, so we won’t tell you how low our prices are!" Give me a break.

Vote for For a limited time only 10) For a limited time only

If it’s so limited, I should never have to see it again.

RdrTech

Oh yeah! This simply means: "We’re going to stop selling this in a few years". Well any product can be : "For a limited time". You can’t sell something FOREVER!

Choices Not In The Top Ten

Vote for Going out of business sale 11) Going out of business sale

I see this alot around where I live. But the businesses are still in business. One store has had over 60 going out of business sales for several years. When are they leaving? I’m still wondering.

Vote for Cell Phone Commercials That Don’t Know About House Phones 12) Cell Phone Commercials That Don’t Know About House Phones

Vote for "The more you buy, the more you save!" 13) "The more you buy, the more you save!"

Does this even make sense? Does this mean buying 100 of a product costing something ending with 99 cents will save me a dollar? Wow!

Vote for "The first 100 callers also get..." 14) "The first 100 callers also get..."

Vote for In business since... 15) In business since...

I suppose this is a good tactic if you have been around since World War II, but why are there so many companies out there adding this to their packaging when they have only been around for a few years? When I’m looking for a bottle of barbecue sauce, I’m really not that impressed if you have been "producing fine quality products since 1997".

Vote for "Comes with certificate of authenticity" 16) "Comes with certificate of authenticity"

Very funny /

Vote for We?re overstocked so we are running a sale to reduce our inventory 17) We?re overstocked so we are running a sale to reduce our inventory

Local car dealer commercials use this one all the time. Are we really supposed to believe that the person in charge of ordering hundreds of thousands on dollars worth of inventory is so dense that they screw up every single time? Note to dealerships who genuinely have a problem with ordering too much inventory, find somebody who can count higher than ten without taking their shoes off.

Vote for 2 day sales 18) 2 day sales

Is there such thing as a two day sale. I’ve seen "Two Day Sale: This Friday through Sunday" Can’t these people count

Vote for Best In Class 19) Best In Class

Are there any cars out there that aren’t best of class? Judging by the number of commercials that make this claim, I have to assume that there is an individual class for just about every single car out there. Best in class doesn’t mean much to me when your class is "hybrid 4 door sedans with 8-9 inch ground clearance, a green tinted speedometer and model name beginning with a soft vowel sound".

Vote for "Today Only!" 20) "Today Only!"

Vote for "Only 19.95" 21) "Only 19.95"

and it’s only $1990573456836, 34884678364734676, 23872873867346736. 99

Vote for It even comes with a mini-flashlight 23) It even comes with a mini-flashlight

Vote for Get More 24) Get More

Ad’s that display the idea of ’You get More with us’ by showing a dog with 6 tails or an ice-cream with like a hundred flakes or a human sized box of popcorn with a weedy man crumbling under its weight etc
