Man this song is incredible and deserves 3rd after Stairway to Heaven, and The Unforgiven. This song is long, 7:27, including beautiful guitaring, about 5 guitar solos including one of the greatest of all time. It has moving lyrics, about the the terrors of war and someone who was injured in battle. The song, has two parts, the first being graceful and beautiful, while the second part is powerful and inspiring. It is also very creative with machine-gun drumming, crazy solos, and and powerful ending.

very powerful song. theh guitar and drums are amazing. it has a really nice and cool riff going on. the lyrics are overwhelming, they just get into your soul. the solo is insane. James's voice sounds just great. it really is such an incredible and exciting song. definitely one of the best songs of all time.

Love this song, all of it, from the second it starts to the end, but one part of the song that just blows my mind, "arkness Imprisoning me, all I see, absolute horror, I cannot live I cannot die, Trapped in myself, body my only cell" Just awesome!

Even if Metallica's not my favorite band, this is definitely the best song ever. Amazing instruments & vocals. Lyrics are amazing & don't do anything like bash religions or emos or anything, they just get a good topic many can relate to & stick with it.

Well I can fill a whole book just appreciating this song. There are only two songs on this list that have guitar solo comparable to this one(STH and HC). Just deserves much more appreciation and proper listening though james didn't give perfect vocals. And one more thing Bohemian is NOT and can NEVER BE the greatest song.

Wow. This song is amazing, from beginning to end. Whoever voted for Stairway needs to get their head out of their ass. That song is far too overrated, alongside Jimmy Page and his guitar playing.

This is a great song and has great vocals and a good guitar solo. Also I love the job lars did on the drums. Metallica has always been one of my favorite bands. One last thing, why the hell is Earth song number 3 when michael jackson obviously has better songs.

This One Deserves a better place. I can't say anything awesome about it. It'll be an insult. Well, anyway, this list can't be trusted... I don't know how 'smells like teen spirit' is above this song, or how 'sweet child o' mine' ended up even in the top 100 list. Salute to Metallica!

EPIC SONG FROM A GREAT METAL BAND
ALL OF THEIR SONGS ARE GREAT FULL OF FEELINGS ABUNDANCE, BUT THIS SONG IS GREAT AND POWERFULL ESPECIALLY WHITH LARS SPEED DRUMMING

One is simply awsome. The way Kirk takes his guitar from slow and barely consious to hardcore ripping and haed bashing solo is simply amazing. The lyrics also speak to me. How he wishes to be able to move and begging for help... perfect.

This is great song, and it should be at higher place, at least third. Emotions that spreads through the whole song are stunning, and so eye-opening... Wonderful.

Best version is live with the San Fransisco Symphony Orchestra. Beautiful and haunting at first and yet closes with those awesome machine gun riffs and amazing solos. Great song, great subject matter, just all round spectacular

It's a powerful song that has a heavy meaning and the way that the music transitions from slow to fast with the double bass pedal is one of the greatest parts of any song (same with fade to black which is actually my favorite song)

Truly, The Best song ever composed by the best band in this world. Every time I listen to it, it gives me chills. Possibly one of the best and most creative guitar solo. A song which gave heavy metal a fresh and much needed charge.

the 1st metallica song I ever listened to was one. then st anger. then enter sandman. then I bought... and justice for all. then I bought the black album, master of puppets and st anger. one just sent me in 2 a metallica craze!

One is simply amazing and very moving, and the transition to the (simply amazing) solo is just fantastic. I think how they fitted 3 or 4 solos that get progressively harder is cool, and I like the simple and epic theme of it
