The man is a god of the guitar! Pure genius don't have to say any more, his playing speaks for itself,
It's subjective as to who is the best at any art form, although there are some analysis than can help. How enduring and widely popular, how much quality content, how complex, varied and original are all factors. Page's brilliance has been obscured by the fact Zep as a band was so great. It gave him more exposure but also camouflaged him. This is true with others, of course: e,g,. Joe Walsh, Neil Young, Keith Richards. There are other reasons great guitarists don't get their due. I love guitar and for me its Page then Duane Allman. The fact Allman is so far down this list is ridiculous. Also many on this list don't really belong because so many voters are too young to know the dif.
If you take a look at the comments for Synester gates, you can see all the people worry about is speed. And he isn't even that fast, Van Halen, and pretty much any good heavy metal band guitarist can play faster, longer, and cleaner than him. Now Jimmy Paige's greatness isn't fueled by speed, its fueled by emotion and innovation. Listen to the main riff in Black dog, Slash called it, "the sexiest riff off all time"
This is a difficult distinction to make, but Jimmy Page gets the nod not solely because of his virtuosity, but also because of his songwriting. Everybody on this list can play the hell out the instrument, but it's the originality and musical intuition that separates the greatest from the greats. Jimmy has a somewhat limited catalog to display his superiority, but he succeeds. He begins his professional career as a studio musician, and moves on to a blues group (The Yardbirds). This creates a sort of education for Jimmy that introduces him to many styles and techniques. Once he forms Led Zeppelin (by assembling legendary talent) he has an impressive repertoire and implements everything he has from folk-based ballads like "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" (not an original, but his arpeggio-driven rhythm certainly is) to epic rock paradigms like "Stairway to Heaven" Jimmy exhibits adeptness in all areas that the greatest guitarist of all time would have to.
Jimmy page is GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at first i thoght there was only slash i listned 2 GNR non stop but then i found Led Zep and i never looked back. although i love hendrix i do think he is a bit over rated for some reason his solos are great but they use alot of the same licks. jimmy page has a lerge variety of what he can play Stairway to heaven, since ive bin lovin you (tht has GREAT guitar in it) bron-y-aur-stomp, heartbreaker, they are are all great but very different, and his riffs are great the ocean, whole lota love, rock n roll, moby dick and the list goes on n on n on he is my favorite gutirist ever nd i think he is the best way better then Prince (wtf)
How in the name of all that is holy did Slash beat Page? Page vs Hendrix is debatable, but Page vs Slash is like a man with a gun vs a man with a knife (Page has the gun). Watch "It Might Get Loud". Just do it. It really shows the kind of guitarist Page is. Slash is a good guitarist and he had a great sound on what I consider one of the top 5 rock albums of all time, but he never brought you into that world that Page did. Page and Led Zeppelin made you lose your focus, without losing theirs. It also hurts to see that some guitarists made it this high. Kirk Hammett made it all because he can play 220 bpm? I mean that's great, but can he be emotional with the guitar? Synester Gates? Synester Gates?!
Jimmy Page should definetly go on top. He's not only the best guitarist of all time, but he was the lead guitarist of the best rock and roll band of all time! Jimmy played the guitar so skillfully. Led Zeppelin has so many fantastic hits, and it's because of the lead guitar. Jimmy makes the music. He can play so many different guitars! And his solos are mad nasty! Jimmy Hendrix was an amazing guitarist, but he didn't have the song writting skill like Page. And if you compare careers, Page's hits with Led Zeppelin overwhelmes Hendrix's few hits from his own band. Jimmy Page is nuber one by far, and no one will ever come close to his standards.
Jimmy Page is number 1.

I'm surprised Jimi Hendrix was voted number 2, as he is always ( wrongly, I may add) voted the number one spot by moronic followers of the overrated show off. Or people who know nothing about how a guitar should be played.

Slash number 1? He should not even be in the top ten, he sucks!

Jimmy page picked out riffs from thin air and was technically better than the other two, easily!

Prince at 10? A joke? It must be.

Jeff Beck, Tony Iommi, Richi Blackmore, David gilmore and Eric Clapton all so low?

Something smells fishy here
What can I say about the other guitarists at the top of the list for a fact I will point out that if you ask 100 people who the guitarist for avenge sevenfold is they will just shrug fact people pick Hendrix because he is the a legend which means when old timers talk about rock they talk about him! So younger Gen like me pick up that he was amazing and half of the people who "love" him don't know him but I can bet if you ask 100 people who Led Zeppelin's lead guitar is the majority will say Jimmy Page.

Slash is amazing hence why Gun's and Roses no longer existed when he left them.
He is one of the best and one whose music will inspair generations to play guitar s subjective as to who is the best at any art form, although there are some analysis than can help. How enduring and widely popular, how much quality content, how complex, varied and original are all factors. Page's brilliance has been obscured by the fact Zep as a band was so great. It gave him more exposure but also camouflaged him. This is true with others, of course: e, g,. Joe Walsh, Neil Young, Keith Richards. There are other reasons great guitarists don't get their due. I love guitar
I will say this as a huge fan of both. As a guitarist myself, It's easy for me to see that Hendrix had a different connection with his axe then Page. Page was a technical master with a wide range of musical talent from open tunings on acoustic, bows, slide, etc. Hendrix tore up a Fender better than anyone on the planet including Page. I think acoustically Page has proven he is right there with Hendrix. But Hendrix has not proven he is with Page on such a varied spectrum of guitar technique and musicianship.
Jimmy Page is the single greatest guitar player of all time. Sure Hendrix is amazing, but he had no where near the extremely wide range of musical style and talent that Page possesses. Page can effortlessly switch from folk to heavy metal without missing a note of an extremely fast sequence. If you don't believe me, just listen to White Summer/Black Mountainside, Heartbreaker, Communication Breakdown, Travelling Riverside Blues, and about one thousand others. No comparison. Page is best.
He is the best ever...
He let the music flow by its meaning...
His lyrics is very simultaneous to what he play with his guitar...
Like since I've been loving you...
For instant...
He creates a sound of depression, sad, and bad feelings about this girl...
His solos always the best...
Like dazed and confused...
Not easily for some one to carry on playing guitar for 35 minutes in one damn time...
His the best guitarist ever...
Love jimmy page...
Your songs will last forever and ever...
I hate when people think that Slash is a better guitarist than Jimmy Page and even Hendrix! He's good, but he can't be compared with God's, I mean with Hendrix and Page. I think that all of you vote at him just because he heve beautiful hair, face and body. I don't say that he isn't good, he is, but these two guitarists are much better than him. I mean.. Did you watched dazed and confuzed from Albert Hall? No? So.. Go and watch it, and next vote on right guitarist! "
As a true musical virtuoso, Mr. Page has been a pioneer for all guitarists who have followed. The beauty and complexity of his compositions and performances produce an emotion in the listener emanating from the very depths of ones soul. Many guitarists have attempted to duplicate his sound but fail miserably. He and the other extremely talented members of Led Zeppelin composed and performed without limits. Jimmy Page is and probably always will be the greatest guitar player ever.
Page can take you to places that you wouldn't dream existed. Not only is he brilliant at conjuring up a place and vibe but he successfully manages to take you there on a magical journey that can only be described as Zeppelin. A great guitarist but more importantly a musician able to merge spirit and sound and give listeners a glimpse into a magical realm of our existence.
There are quite a few guys that made less errors while playing, quite a few guys that were faster but the 1 thing Jimmy Page had that puts him even ahead of Hendrix was the ability to write guitar into songs. Players are a dime a dozen but composition is where the true musical genius comes from. Album after album it was always unique, tasty and brilliantly played.
Page is not as good technically as many of the other guitarists on this list, although he is still technically very good. However, Page is simply the best of all time at truly putting his feelings into his playing. He occasionally makes mistakes, and sometimes can be a bit sloppy, but his amazing feeling and versatility, combined with his jaw-dropping live, improvised solos, (Song Remains the Same video? Unbelievable. ) make him the best of all time overall.
"Most" new bands have a guitarist for rhythm, and for soloing, but Jimmy Page and older rock guitarist in general are the ONLY guitarist in the band, he plays the rhythm, the back up guitar, the solos, he helps write the songs. He's not only a good guitar player, he's a true musician, I'm not trying to bash any other guitarist but how many of these guys do you think know every note on the fret board off the to of their head, and EVERY chord, in all kinds of tunings. He is a master of the guitar.
Definitely the greatest guitarist ever, should be no 1, greatest solos like of stairway to heaven, whole lotta love, heartbreaker, since I've been loving you, black dog and other awesome riff's like whole lotta love etc, guitar work on dazed and confused, and I could go on and on and on, there's no limit, how can other above him in the list play all that excepting hendrix, he started the music which started heavy metal, the best music, for sure he should be no. 1
one of the greatest guitarists ever in one of the greatest bands ever. for me it is a tie for him and jimi hendrix for the best ever. Definitely the best riff creator ever and had amazing solos and he could play a two neck guitar which is awesome. very diverse he could play all styles of music. he had amazing solos like the one in stairway to heaven, whole lotta love, heartbreaker and many more. easily ahead of pretty boy prince.
Synister Gates receives votes because those A7x fans don't have an idea what rock is, they only know van halen, Synister gates and Angus Young, and even Halen and Young are better then him. Hendrix only because people always say that, so they vote on him just to look like they know music. Slash is the last good writer, so younger people that knows good music think he was the best, since he still makes music. Jimmy Page is wins votes because HE is the best.
What the hell? Synyster gates? Really? I guess the intro solo to afterlife is so much better than the stairway solo too? Putting jimmy page at 4 is disrespectful all alone, but putting a guitarist who wasn't even born when stairway was written ahead of jimmy page is just pure ignorance! Slash is great, but there is no way he should be ranked at 1! I would put page at one, but I have no problem with hendrix being ahead of him...

Even synyster gates would be pissed off if he saw he was ranked ahead of jimmy page.
A genius no doubt second to none. His guitar skills are spread all over the fret board on any string instrument, be it acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, banjo, sitar, double necks, triple necks etc. Jimmy Page has produced more than a handful of unique and great rock songs. His music is admired everywhere, people from all walks of life, people of all ages from 10 to 100. Long live Jimmy Page, long live his music.
Jimmy Page is an absolute musical genius and one of a select few truly iconic figures of the rock age. Brilliant unique guitarist, riff writer, arranger, studio wizard, record producer, and guiding force behind rock's greatest band, Led Zeppelin, Page will be one of those rare artists who's stature will grow through the ages, thanks to the timeless music he helped create as a member of the mighty Led Zeppelin.
