What Would Make You Want to Add to TheTopTens?
It’s an interesting idea that I have toyed with, but now that preachinpreach has brought it up, let’s discuss.There are a number of loyal contributors to TheTopTens who have made the site what it is today. Launched just two years ago, TheTopTens was a pet project of mine to help me learn more about website development, SQL, SEO, etc. Today, I’m astounded at what the site has become and am excited to see what the future will bring.
But as I stated, the site is where it is because of the people it has attracted and I would love to be able to express my gratitude for this. The problem is that I’m not sure of the best way to do this.
At this point, the biggest benefits to being a loyal contributor are notoriety, the opportunity for a few backlinks via the member page, and hopefully a little entertainment as you try to add lists that attract others and grow in size and popularity.
The biggest challenges on my end when it comes to providing more incentives are time and funding. Just dealing with the impressive number of new additions every day takes up 8-10 hours every week and that doesn’t count updates to code and other additions to the site. The ad revenue generated by the site helps, but I assure you that TheTopTens is definitely the lower paying of my two “jobs”.
That said I’m interested in knowing is what ideas do you have for other ways of honoring contributors. I have a few ideas, but I’d like to hear what would make you more likely to keep coming back to TheTopTens. I think a very good way of raising interest in users would be at the end of every month a special area could be added to the homepage for the number one overrall contributer. Maybe a small picture can be added. Either that or the number one contributer can win 50,000.”

“I think another thing that would be good for this website would be the for the users to be able to create their own blogs.”
“Right now, I'm going to suggest a subtraction instead of an addition for T3. I say get rid of some of the stupid lists (Rockland Middle School, etc.) that are just clogging up the database. Not to mention, right to privacy could be violated there.”
“I think another great thing for this website would be, to allow the users to see all of the list that they have created. Sometimes it's annoying seeing only the top ten of your list. Maybe an option on the users page saying "click here to see all of ___ lists". Just a suggestion”

“I think waiting for your post to be checked before being published is a bit annoying.
Maybe it would be better for the person who started the thread to moderate and check the posts themselves. (Kinda like wikipedia)
